Food & Beverage

The use of compressed air and Nitrogen in food and beverage applications is normally the largest or second largest energy consumer on a production line - behind heat.

Because our compressor systems are significantly more efficient that twin stage rotary screw compressors (which would normally be installed), we have an opportunity to help our customers reduce their overhead costs significantly.

Modified Atmosphere Packaging

Filling food packaging with inert gas such as Nitrogen extends the shelf life of food products and reduces waste.

The Nitrogen supply to this process often forms one of the largest overhead costs on a production line.

On site supply of food grade nitrogen is normally achievable using membrane systems, with compressed air supplies on site.

Combining an efficient air compressor for other processes with a Nitrogen generation system can achieve less than a 12 month payback.

This is an especially attractive solution in installations which currently rely on Nitrogen deliveries.

Food production

Oil-free compressed air is essential in food processing as it minimizes contamination risks and meets strict air quality standards, whilst providing the necessary power to food processing equipment.

Applications such as cutting, peeling, sorting, mixing, and filling products require 4-7 BARg (60-100 PSI) supplies of food grade oil free compressed air.

These high volume consumers are often operated continuously - resulting in high energy use, high electricity costs and high emissions.

By installing more efficient compressors, the costs, energy use and emissions can all be significantly reduced.

Beverages

Oil free compressed air is used in pressure filling machines for hot and non-vaccumable products, as well as packaging and cleaning applications.

As with other food related applications,  ISO 8573-1 Class 0 is often a requirement to avoid contamination, in addition to microbiological quality requirements.

More efficient air compression can reduce the amount of energy used on a production line.

With the food and beverage industry under immense cost pressure - it is our opinion that any cost and energy saving that can be made, should be made.

RCL are ready to support customers on this energy saving journey.
